Elongation testing involves stretching a sample until it breaks, and then measuring how much it stretched. This is known as the sample's plastic deformation.

An elongation testing machine measures the degree to which a sample stretches after breaking. The test involves: 

1. Clamping a sample of wire at both ends in the elongation tester
2. Applying a specific amount of tensile force
3. Measuring the amount of elongation that occurs

An elongation testing machine measures the amount of elongation that occurs in a sample.  The sample is subjected to enough pressure to bend it until it breaks. The machine measures the degree to which the sample has stretched, without returning to its original shape. This is known as the specimen's plastic deformation.
